Shannon has been a member of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Dalhousie since 2006. She completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Victoria and a post-doctoral fellowship at Indiana University. She is currently involved in leading the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Dalhousie, as both the Director of Clinical Training, and Co-Director of the Centre for Psychological Health.
For many years, Shannon studied aspects of cognitive processing in individuals on the autism spectrum, and she continues to be involved with the autism community in her clinical work. Over the past 10 years, Shannon's research has focused on understanding and improving well-being, resilience, and behaviour change in various groups, such as children, families, and undergraduate students. She is particularly interested in the physical, mental, and cognitive benefits of nature connection, as well as developing intervention approaches to improve people's connection with nature, an important pathway to wellness.
