Why are we doing this research?
The mental health of university students has been in decline for many years and has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to appropriate and adequate mental health care is also lacking for many students. To better address the needs of post-secondary students across Canada this project will evaluate the effectiveness and use of Console, a novel and holistic online mental health and well-being platform.
What will this research project examine?
.This project will examine who is using Console, how they are using the resources, how these patterns are related to the results of the mental health assessment they complete over multiple time periods.
Expected Outcome?
The results of this research will inform improvements to the platform and provide much needed knowledge to address the mental health of university students in Canada. Further, by informing the optimal use and delivery of Console, this project will improve access to mental health services for university students and the general population, which can help reduce strain on our healthcare systems.
This project is being completed by Patrick Hickey, a PhD Clinical Psychology student, under the supervision of Dr. Shannon Johnson and Dr. Elizabeth Cawley, in partnership with Console developers and administrators, StudentCare and JackHabbit.
Data collection is ongoing from participating universities in Canada with an expected completion date of August 2024.
